What is it?

Using your dogs most powerful weapon, their nose, you will learn how your dog can detect things such as pieces of Kong, Catnip , Gun oil, and even your keys and phone!!

We have all seen those amazing dogs on the TV sniffing out drugs and weapons at the airport; well did you know that YOUR DOG can also use their nose to find things?

ANY DOG CAN DO THIS! Regardless of age, breed, sex. This is also suitable for anxious or reactive dogs. All dogs have the skill to sniff.

This course will teach you how to work as a team to find specific items. How cool will that be when your friends come round and you can direct your dog to find something!

We don’t train our dogs to smell because of course they are already brilliant at that, usually on a walk when you are in a rush right?! …But with WagRight’s Detective Dogs you will learn how to channel that amazing skill.

Did you know that humans have about 5 million olfactory (smell) receptors but our dogs have about 300 MILLION!! No wonder they see the world through their noses…

Why teach scent work?

Sniffing a particular scent, discriminating it from any other smells and interpretation of the scent gives our dogs a massive mental workout. This enrichment sport can, and will, tire your dogs out.

Scent work activates the ‘seeking system’ in our dogs brain which leads to a release of a chemical called Dopamine. Dopamine is responsible for motivation, movement and memory. Releasing of Dopamine makes your dog feel good and increases their cognitive function (brain power).

Working with your dog on scent work increases the bond between you both as you are working as a team and sometimes, against other teams if you wish to go on to train for competitions!

It is a low impact sport so can be used for dogs that are disabled or who might be recovering from an operation or needing crate rest.
